What is channelling? Channelling is a means of connecting with a higher source of information. It is a process of conscious communication with a non-physical or discarnate Being or entity that exists in a higher dimension or plane, such as a Guide, Angel or Ascended Master. A channel, someone living in the physical dimensions, is able to move into a state of altered consciousness to form and hold the connection with the entity and bring through information.
“Just because somebody drops in on you from another dimension, don’t assume they’re wiser than you
about anything at all, or that they can do anything better than you can do it yourself.
Discarnate or mortal, what matters about people is what they know.”
Richard Bach, ‘Illusions’
Channelling is not the same as Mediumship. With channelling, there is a clear and conscious choice on the part of the channel and a specific Being or entity to connect and communicate with and through each other. The topics that are discussed can be wide ranging or specific. A spiritual medium will be open to messages from those who have moved on from physical life into the ‘here-after’ and who are confirming that death is not the end of everything. Both have their place in offering guidance and clarity from the world of spirit to those of us who are still in the world of matter.
It is usually easier to make a clear channelling connection with the source of information when we are in a relaxed, calm, meditative state. This is sometimes called trance channelling. It does not mean that the person who is channelling is completely unconscious of what is going on. What it does mean is that they are in a state of altered consciousness, which is another way to describe meditation, and which allows for them to ‘get out of the way’ so that the information can flow through easily and with clarity.
The information that is transmitted by the Guide to the channel may be in the form of words, images, sounds or a felt-sense within the body. It can depend on what the channel’s dominant sense is and the Guides will be able to communicate with them at that level. Ultimately, the Guide or higher source is having to use the vocabulary, or filter, of the channel, and so it sometimes happens that the same entity channelled by two individuals can ‘sound’ relatively different in their choice of words, yet the origin and essence of the information is the same.
Some people are very comfortable channelling verbally, some prefer writing down the answers, others draw sketches. Some receive images, words, or a felt-sense, and it depends on your own sensory system as to how you will receive the information. The channel’s task is to vocalise the impulses that the guide sends and which the brain translates into words, or describe an image or feeling. Usually, words do not get laid down in the memory: once they have been voiced they are forgotten. Interestingly, images seem to be easier to recall, perhaps because they may processed in a different part of the brain.
It takes regular practice and discipline to form a stable connection for channeling your Guide whether you choose to access their wisdom simply for your own benefit or to share with others. A high-level guide can offer you insights into your life choices, bring in healing energy when you need it, offer inspiration in the form of images, e.g. painting, sculpting, etc, bring guidance when working with clients, in teaching situations or in relationships, and much, much more.
Their expertise is vast and varied: the only limitation to working in true and empowering partnership with any of these beings is usually our own skill in communicating with them, and our willingness to trust and listen to their guidance.
